Snapper & Grouper, Ginza, Tokyo, Japan
The bar in Snapper & Grouper, a restaurant in the heart of Tokyo, Japan, is
a multi-cultural melting pot of design styles. Designed to provide its visitors
with a Latin flavor, the custom chandeliers use Japanese materials and
cutting-edge LED lighting technology from an American company, Color Kinetics.
Five large fixtures, or chandeliers, are located
throughout the bar area. These fixtures are made with Japanese paper called
"washi." Each fixture contains eight iColor® Cove 12" fixtures
controlled with a Color Kinetics Synchronizer to create a vibrant chasing
rainbow effect. The designers of the restaurant like Color Kinetics' patented
Chromacore® technology not only for the amazing colors and effects they can
generate, but also for the low power consumption, little heat production, ultra
long source life, and no UV or noise emission.
The result is unique color changing
"paper" fixtures that have become the most attractive point in the
bar. Color Kinetics color changing lights illuminate the floor through the paper
shade, shining a dazzling rainbow and raising a festive Latin mood. Since the
front wall of the bar is a glass window, the fixtures can be seen from the
sidewalk, delighting pedestrians walking by with a dynamic show of color
changing light.
